Clarity required on the closure of St Michael's Hospital
The West Lothian Liberal Democrats are looking for reassurance that the closure of St Michael’s Hospital in Linlithgow is only temporary. We are...
The future of St Michael's Hospital is hugely important to our community, as evidenced by the incredible turn out at this week's meeting. I'd like to thank The Friends of St Michael's for keeping the issue at the forefront of people's minds, and I hope the representatives from the council and the NHS who were present now recognise how vital it is to get the facility reopened as soon as possible.
I am glad the Lothian Integration Joint Board are undertaking a public consultation, and I would urge people to take part in the online survey, but I'm frustrated it's taken so long to get to this point - St Michael's has now been closed for 15 months, and we won't get any decision before June 2023. Finally, I was extremely moved by the testimonies we heard from people whose loved ones had been cared for so brilliantly at St Michael's Hospital. It brought home the stark reality that a good health service means providing care in many different kinds of settings, one size cannot not fit all. I am looking forward to working with the IJB to try and find a way forward which means Linlithgow will get its community hospital back open as it should be.
