The Coronavirus has changed the way we live in our community. Cars are being used less, communal spaces have become even more important and social distancing measures need to be implemented to keep us all safe. We welcome West Lothian Council’s £600,000 bid to the Spaces for People fund and look forward to seeing positive changes in the near future.

The bid is for only temporary walking and cycling infrastructure that helps to protect public health; with a focus on essential journeys such as to hospitals, health services, shops, pharmacies and areas used for exercise.

The West Lothian Liberal Democrats believe we should take this opportunity to make these changes permanent and more widespread. We should use this opportunity to transform our communities and realise our full potential forever, not just for now.

Please sign this petition if you would like to see permanent changes to our communal spaces, including widening pavements at pinch points, developing a safe and clearly delineated cycle path network throughout the region and lowering speed limits on some roads to encourage cycling and walking.

We will include your name and address when submitting the petition to West Lothian Council.
