John MacKenzie is the Scottish Liberal Democrats candidate for the Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh ward.

For the last 35 years I have been a solicitor, helping individuals and businesses, large and small, with problems that they faced and disputes to be resolved. I have seen most aspects of the legal system, from debt problems to significant planning law issues and represented clients in most of the courts in the UK.
I plan to retire from private practice and focus my efforts on helping local people. I live in Linlithgow, and have done so for over 25 years, but am a frequent visitor to Winchburgh and other towns in West Lothian. I have seen first hand the explosive growth in housing development in and around West Lothian and particularly in Winchburgh that has put pressure on local services.
The residents of Broxburgh, Uphall and Winchburgh deserve better infrastructure, most obviously a train station in Winchburgh which has been long promised. Bus services are critical to rural communities and I believe we should invest in those services and not cut them. I will work with the local community councils and voluntary sector organisations to get the best possible outcome for all.
The Liberal Democrats have a fantastic track record in local democracy, and I am keen to build on the good work that Councillor Sally Pattle has already done across the Linlithgow ward and West Lothian as a whole. I have spent my career in conflict resolution and I believe that we should seek to work with all political representatives to find solutions that work for everyone.
