St Michael's Hospital Update

15 Aug 2023

Statement from Councillor Sally Pattle on St Michael’s Hospital, Linlithgow:

“Contrary to widespread reports in the press, St Michael's Hospital has NOT been permanently closed.

At the West Lothian Integrated Joint Board meeting on Tuesday 8th August, the decision was made to keep it 'temporarily closed' while the Lothian Health Anchor Board explore whether it's possible to transfer any health services out to the site.

They will do this in the autumn, and a strong commitment was given that the work would include the formation of a key stakeholder group that would likely include local elected members and groups such as The Friends of St Michael's.

I was therefore perplexed to read the article claiming that both St Michael's and Tippethill would be closed permanently, which has caused a lot of people unnecessary confusion and distress.

I have contacted the journalist who wrote the article to request a clarification, but for the avoidance of doubt, no final decision on the future of St Michael's Hospital has been made.

I will keep you updated on here, or of course you can contact me in the usual ways.”
